Boston Man Wins First.
Masters Prize In the New York Chess Congress Awarded to John L. Clark—Other Trophies Given.
Rochester, N. Y., Aug 26—The big plums hung up for the victors in the annual tournament of the New York state chess association, which has been meeting at Summerville since Tuesday, were carried away by Bay state chess players.
After winning the Interstate match, which was finished Thursday, between Massachusetts and New York, John L. Clark won the master's tournament, which was completed tonight, by a score of five games against four won by R. T. Black, champion of the Brooklyn cheese club, H. D. Daniel and G. H. Walcott, both of Boston. Clark was formerly captain of the Harvard university chess club.
First prise in class A of the general tourney went to D. F. Searle of Rome, N. Y. with the second prize divided between Dr. P. B. Lepper of Boston and D. W. Waller of Seneca Falls, N. Y.

Will Attend State Meeting.
Among those who will attend the New York State Chess Association meeting at Trenton Falls, next week, is Edward N. Olly, the problematist, ex-New Jersey champion, and former member of the Brooklyn Chess Club. John L. Clark of Boston, Norman T. Whitaker of Philadelphia and William J. Ferris of Newcastle, Del., are likely participants. Entries should be filed with Secretary Archibald McMartin of Johnstown, N. Y.
