Student Takes Chess Honors
John Freeman, 16, Burges High School student, won the El Paso city chess tournament with a perfect score when he defeated Clark Bishop this week.
The tournament, a seven-round, affair, was held in the Cleveland Square Recreation Center, with one round being played each week. Young Freeman bowled over all opposition to finish with a score of 7-0. H. M. Fabela and Robert Hunter are tied for second place, but each had another game to play next week.
Freeman moved here last June from Houston, where he was a member of the Houston Chess Club. Although he was the youngest member of the club, he won the club championship last year. Freeman and his parents live at 7401 Parkland Drive.
