Samuels King Of Brooklyn Chess Players
Bornbolz, Bruzza, Pearl, Christenson Bunched for Other High Places
Lester Samuels is the new king pin at chess in Brooklyn. The title is undisputedly his, in so far as it is in the power of the Brooklyn Chess League to bestow it officially. There are others whose recognized talent might warrant their challenging his right to the distinction. Had they so wished, Abraham Kupchik, Alexander Kevitz, Albert Marder and Harry Zirn could have made it interesting for him. None availed himself of the opportunity.
For a number of years Samuels has not permitted his light to seek seclusion in a bushel. It has been shining quite brightly, first as a star on Morningside Heights, again as a cable player for the Blue and White, and, subsequently, as leader of the younger element at the Manhattan Chess Club, whose oracle he was. He now practices law in Brooklyn, the chess championship of which could scarcely be in better hands.
Bornholz, Bruzza, Pearl and Christenson are bunched for the other high places, which depend upon the outcome of two games Bornholz must finish. Until this has been done, the reception, planned for Saturday, has been postponed.
