Dr. Lange, the Chess Player, Dead.
New York, Dec. 11.—A dispatch to the Staats Zeitung from Berlin says that Dr. Max Lange, the famous German chess master, theoretician and problemist is dead at Liepsic. He was born in Magdeburg, on August 7, 1832, and was known as a chess player in 1849, when he founded a chess club among the boys of the Magdeburg gymnasium. He also edited a chess periodical at the same time. Lange made a great name for himself by his numerous chess publications. He was the co-founder of a great many German chess associations and when he died was manager of the German Chess association.
