Joseph Shipman is the son of Walter Shipman, an International Master who is one of the stoutest oaks among New York players. Joe is a mathematics graduate student at Brandeis who has a desk next to Martin Kreuzer, a top player in this area. In the New York Open, Joe passed a pawn to his opponent by oversight, but the position turned out to be a serviceable gambit. There's an instructive King hunt at the end.
