Physician and PhD in Applied Physics, since 1955 he worked at the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) holding various positions. He was a Member of the Board of Directors several times and became its President between 1998 and 1999. He was also the first President of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, from its creation in 1994 until his appointment as Chairman of the CNEA Board of Directors in 1998. He was co-founder of International Association for Radiological Protection and the Argentine Radioprotection Society (SAR), whose presidency he held.
Important champion of nuclear science and technology in Argentina, whose eminence in radioprotection issues was internationally recognized, between 1974 and 1979 he was Director of the Scientific Secretariat of the United Nations Scientific Committee for the Study of Radiation Effects Atomic (UNSCEAR). In 1986 he was part of the first group of experts convened to analyze the probable consequences of the Chernobyl accident. Between 1987 and 1994 he was also part of the International Nuclear Safety Advisory Group (INSAG) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Dan was an enthusiastic defender of Argentine nuclear development throughout his life and one of those responsible for Argentina being among the countries that stand out in its science and technology.
He was born in Buenos Aires in 1931 and died in 2003. In 2006, honoring him, the “Dan Beninson Nuclear Technology Institute” was founded.
