Fresno Defeats Bakersfield In Chess Matches
The Fresno Chess Club has won the Herman Steiner Cup by defeating the Bakersfield Chess Club in the first of a series of annual chess events planned by the two clubs.
The cup is named for the California State chess champion. It was won by the Fresno club two matches to one. The matches were played in January, February and March. The teams will compete for the trophy again next year.
Robert Baker the president of the Fresno Club said the final match was decided by a score of 9½ to 5½. Fifteen persons played on each team.
