Three Players Tie for First In Chess Play
Caption: Four Top contenders in the current Boise Chess tournament which ends today at the YMCA are Glen Buckendorf (Buhl), Fred Byron (Portland, Ore.), Dr. David Groenig (Caldwell), and Ken Jones (Reno).
Three players tied for first place Saturday in the current Idaho Chess tournament which ends this morning at the YMCA. It started Friday. Concluding event will be a dinner this afternoon at 2 p.m.
K. R. Jones of Reno, Dr. David Gronig, Caldwell, and Glen Buckendorf, Buhl are tied for first, with C. H. Stewart, Boise, second, and Dick Vandenburg, Boise, William F. Taber, Reno, Fred Byron, Portland, and Ray Smith, Reno, tied for third place. The leaders each have won four and lost one game.
There will be two division winners named, tournament officials said, the winner of the Idaho perpetual trophy which goes to the top Idaho player of the tournament and the invitational winner, top player in the tournament regardless of home state.
