Chess Event Is Scheduled at San Jose
Chess players and fans from San Bruno to Salinas will converge on San Jose Oct. 15 and 16 for a two-day tourney to determine the peninsula area champion.
Sponsors of the event are the San Jose “Y” Chess club and the San Jose chamber of commerce. Play will start at the Civic Auditorium at noon sharp Oct. 15. In charge as tourney director will be George Koltanowski, world champion blindfold player and former champion of Belgium, now a resident in Santa Rosa.
Assisting Mr. Koltanowski will be George Van Hooser of Sunnyvale, who reports early entries from such well-known peninsula chess addicts as Prof. Lyman H. Daugherty of San Jose State college; Edwin T. Dana, Palo Alto; George Oakes, Salinas; Dr. J. M. David-Malig, San Jose; Howard Skinner, Hollister; Anton H. Kiviaho and Ruben T. Sanderson, both of Redwood City, and W. T. Adams, recent winner of the Santa Clara county championship.
It is expected that the entry list will be kept open until one hour before the actual start of play. However, the host organizations urge that wherever possible, entries be mailed now. Write either George Koltanowski, Box 124, Santa Rosa, or W. T. Adams, Box 1104, San Jose.
