FOUR TIMES CHESS CHAMPION
Bernstein heads City College Men—End of Major Tourney.
The Baltimore City College Chess Club has now played off all the postponed games of its major chess tournament and the standing of the players was announced yesterday. The tourney has been one of the most successful ever held by the club.
Benjamin A. Bernstein, 1902, is City College champion another year, this being his fourth consecutive championship. In last year's tournament he had a clear record of 14 games won and no defeats. This year he won 14 games and played a draw with Rossiter M. McCrone, 1904. Lewis S. Cohen, 1904, might have given Bernstein a close race for first place, but he left the school with a record in the club of 10 victories and no defeats at the end of the twelfth round.
Gustav H. Woltereck, 1902, showed a great improvement over last year, finishing second, while in the previous tourney he was eighth. Most of the other contestants are new members in the club. The official standing of the first 12 men is as follows:
The club, in connection with its alumni, has arranged a return match with the West Branch, Y. M. C. A., to be played Friday, April 5. The team which will represent the City College will be selected from the following men: Benjamin A. Bernstein, Walter C. Curran, Gustav H. Woltereck, Thomas B. Marshall, Rossiter M. McCrone, Myer Aaronson, D'Arcy Didier, Justus M. Stahn, Lewis B. Cohen and John M. Mathews.
