BERKELEY, March 28.—The first lecture of Professor Eduard Meyer, the great German historian, instead of being delivered at 4 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, will be given 8 o'clock in the evening at Hearst Hall.
In J. S. Lamson, J. L. Dobbins, T. E. Stanton, E. H. Sawyer, E. K. Strong, A. D. Weitbrec and R. L. Engenhoff, with C. J. Gibbs as substitute, California has at last a team to represent it in the intercollegiate chess tournament against Stanford. Three of these men—Lamson, Dobbins and Weitbec—are veterans. As four of Stanford's team are veterans, a close series of matches is looked for. The result last year was a tie. The tournament will be held in the Mechanics' Institute on April 8.

Second place was secured by C. J. Gibbs of the Whiting-Mead Commercial Co. His chess record includes the championship of the University of California and winning the first tournament of the Chess and Checker club of Southern California at Los Angeles.

C. J. Gibbs is the only one who drew his game, by what is known as perpetual check. The distinction of winning the only game from the master during his tour in California is held by J. Holland Smith.
The young Cuban is fresh from winning the international masters' tournament in New York. This visit has included Colorado Springs, Salt Lake, Seattle, Portland and San Francisco and continues through several cities in Texas and the south.

Hines of Pasadena, woman champion of the West Coast; team match between Orange County and Pasadena; and rapid transit elimination tourney conducted by Charles Broughton, known to the chess world as the “Little Black Pawn.” Twenty-board simultaneous tandem by Lindsay H. Heath and C. J. Gibbs, and the press match which was won by Chess Reporter with the Star-News runner-up, completed the matinee program.

After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.

Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
