Dr. Mills Surprises St. Paul
Eastern Chess Players Vanquished by a Man From Spokane.

Dr. C. A. Mills is winning honors for Spokane among the chess players of the east. He recently won in St. Paul eight games out of a series of nine with the best players of that city, some of whom have acquired an international reputation. One of the players, Smith, whom the doctor defeated recently in Chicago, won a series of games from Willenberg the famous victor in the last two tournaments of the Ohio Chess Club. Gillette, who lost before the Spokane player, won the last National Chess Correspondent's tournament.
The St. Paul Chess Club is piqued at the east with which the man from Spokane has beaten their crack players, and is preparing to give Dr. Mills a warm reception on his return from the east, and will find if possible someone who can recapture the laurels which the Pacific coast so easily won from them.
Dr. Mills played chess in Spokane a number of years, and never while here met his equal. He has never played in a Pacific coast tournament but has met and easily vanquished some of the best players of the sound and California.

Spokane Chronicle, Spokane, Washington, Saturday, December 22, 1894

CHAMPION AT CHESS.
Now That Dr. Mills Has Gone One Must Be Chosen.

Dr. C. A. Mills and family left this morning for Cleveland, Ohio, where they will remain for a year or two or more. Dr. Mills for several years past has been the champion chess player of Spokane and the real head and enthusiast of the local chess club. The doctor plays a game that can not be beaten by anyone in this part of the country, and his friends have claimed he is the best player on the Pacific coast, having beaten every player who has come to Spokane in the past five years, and among them some of California's crack players. A local tournament will perhaps be arranged among the players of Spokane to decide who is champion. The contest will be an interesting one, for there are a number of good players here of nearly equal standing, thought none of them could compete with Dr. Mills.

M.B. Johnson, Jr.
In the death of Malcolm B. Johnson, jr., on Thursday, the city lost one of its strongest players. Up until a year ago he had been a participant in all state and city tournaments, and while not winning any he generally gave a good account of himself. A member of the John G. White Chess Club, he also represented the City Club in its chess matches, and in 1926 won the “ladder” competition conducted by that club from among close to 30 competitors. In this tourney he did not lose game, the late Dr. Charles A. Mills being credited with a draw against him.

'til the world understands why Robert J. Fischer criticised the U.S./British and Russian military industry imperial alliance and their own Israeli Apartheid. Sarah Wilkinson explains:

Bobby Fischer, First Amendment, Freedom of Speech
What a sad story Fischer was,” typed a racist, pro-imperialist colonial troll who supports mega-corporation entities over human rights, police state policies & white supremacy.
To which I replied: “Really? I think he [Bob Fischer] stood up to the broken system of corruption and raised awareness! Whether on the Palestinian/Israel-British-U.S. Imperial Apartheid scam, the Bush wars of ‘7 countries in 5 years,’ illegally, unconstitutionally which constituted mass xenocide or his run in with police brutality in Pasadena, California-- right here in the U.S., police run rampant over the Constitution of the U.S., on oath they swore to uphold, but when Americans don't know the law, and the cops either don't know or worse, “don't care” -- then I think that's pretty darn “sad”. I think Mr. Fischer held out and fought the good fight, steadfast til the day he died, and may he Rest In Peace.

After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.

Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
