1956, Philippines Chess Victories

The Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney, New South Wales, New South Wales, Australia, Monday, December 31, 1956

Philippines Chess Victories
Melbourne, Sunday.—Philippines had a field day in the fourth round of the Australian chess championship yesterday.
They scored three wins from the New South Wales players, including two former national title-holders.
Their hero was the 19-year-old R. Cardoso, who defeated the international master, C. J. S. Purdy, in a beautifully played game.
A. Koshnitsky lost a piece quite early to F. Campomanes. His attempts to complicate the position were effectively refuted by his opponent.
The third Philippines win was also at the expense of New South Wales, J. Pascual defeating J. Szewczyk.
The title-holder, John Purdy, added to New South Wales misfortunes by losing to L. Endzelins (S.A.) in the best game of the round.
The two Victorians, L. Awdiew and J. N. Hanks, played a well-contested draw, Awdiew thus retaining his half-point lead over the rest of the field.
The New Zealand champion, O. Sarapu, atoned for his third-round loss by effectively defeating E. Basta (Vic).
Other result: O. Weber (Tas.) beat F. A. Crawl (Vic); S. Lazare (Vic.) beat W. Leonhardt (W.A.); J. Shmeleff (N.S.W.) beat Dr. A. Learner (Vic.); the games, M. Kuzelansky (W'land), R. G. Ely (N.S.W.) and P. Ihnatenko (Vic.), V. A. Teters were drawn; the game, Dr. P. Kalinouseky (S.A.), V. K. Ozols, (Vic.), was adjourned after two sessions of play.
Leading scores with 10 rounds to go: Awdiew, 3-½; Cardoso, Endzelins, Hans and Sarapu, each 3; Ihnatenko, Teters and Weber, each 2½ Basta, Campomanes, Lazare, Pascual, C. J. S. Purdy and J. Purdy, each 2.

'til the world understands why Robert J. Fischer criticised the U.S./British and Russian military industry imperial alliance and their own Israeli Apartheid. Sarah Wilkinson explains:

Bobby Fischer, First Amendment, Freedom of Speech
What a sad story Fischer was,” typed a racist, pro-imperialist colonial troll who supports mega-corporation entities over human rights, police state policies & white supremacy.
To which I replied: “Really? I think he [Bob Fischer] stood up to the broken system of corruption and raised awareness! Whether on the Palestinian/Israel-British-U.S. Imperial Apartheid scam, the Bush wars of ‘7 countries in 5 years,’ illegally, unconstitutionally which constituted mass xenocide or his run in with police brutality in Pasadena, California-- right here in the U.S., police run rampant over the Constitution of the U.S., on oath they swore to uphold, but when Americans don't know the law, and the cops either don't know or worse, “don't care” -- then I think that's pretty darn “sad”. I think Mr. Fischer held out and fought the good fight, steadfast til the day he died, and may he Rest In Peace.
Educate yourself about U.S./State Laws --

After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.
