Jose Capablanca Dies Rated One of World's Finest Chess Players
New York, March 9 (U.P.)—Jose Raoul Capablanca, 53, world chess champion from 1921 to 1927 and one of the greatest players in history, died Sunday of a cerebral hemorrhage.
Known as “Capa,” he was born in Havana, Nov. 19, 1888 and learned the game at 4. He held the Cuban championship at 12.
Since 1913, he had been in the Cuban diplomatic service and was commercial attache of the Cuban Embassy when he died.
