RUSSIA'S CHESS CHAMPIONS.
TIE FOR “GRAND MASTERSHIP.”
In the Soviet All-Union Chess Tournament, which has just come to an end says a Reuter message from Moscow, no player succeeded in winning the title of “U.S.S.R Champion and Grand Master,” as the contest resulted in a draw between Romanovsky (the Leningrad master) and Bogatyrchuk, of Kiev who each scored 14½ points out of a possible 20. The third and fourth prizes were won by Douz-Khotmirsky (Moscow) and Model (Leningrad), with 13 points each and the fifth and sixth prizes by Botvinnik (Leningrad) and Makagonoff (Baku), with 12½ points each. Romanovsky and Bogatyrchuk will shortly play a match for the title of “Champion and Grand Master of the U.S.S.R”.
