A large tournament is now under way at Moscow. This tournament was arranged in three sections of about ten players each. The four players having the highest score in each of the sections, are now contesting the final round. The present score are as follows:
Section 1: Judovitch, 9.
Kotz, 8.
Rumin, 8.
Blumenfeld, 6½.
Section 2: Kahn, 8.
Slonin, 7½.
Grigorieff, 7.
Section 3: David, 8.
Subareff, 7.
Kunitz, 7.
Panin, 6½.
The Leningrad Championship Tournament was won by Botvinnik, scoring 14 points out of 17 games contested. The leading scores were as follows:
Romanovsky, 11½; Alatorzeff, 11; Lisitsin, 10; L. Kubbel, 9½.
We give the names of these leading Russian players. No doubt many of them would rank with the best of the European masters and yet we doubt if any of our readers have ever heard of the 16 players named.

FINDS NEW CHESS STAR

MOSCOW, Nov. 30— The Russian chess world has discovered a new star. A national tournament held in the capital was won by M. Botvinnik, who holds first place in chess for the first time in his career.
