Richard Burry Is Affianced
Lieutenant George Theuerholz, USN and Mrs. Theuerholz of Ozone Park, Long Island, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Georgette, to Richard Eddowes Burry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund R. Burry of 45 Valley Road, Larchmont.
Miss Theuerholz attended schools in Long Island and is now with the Hoey and Ellison Lige Agency, Inc. of New York, of which Mr. Burry, Sr. is vice president.
Her fiance attended Mamaroneck Junior High School, and the Hackley Prepatory School in Tarrytown. He was a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania when he entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific theater and Japan. He has been on terminal leave since January.

Ricky was host to 15 guests among whom were his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund R. Burry. Mr. and Mrs. O. Brownfield, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Mason, Mr. and Mrs. K. Ashhurst, Ruby and Carolyn Ashhurst and Mr. and Mrs. R. Nichols. His maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Theuerholz of New York city wired birthday greetings.

Chess Class Set To Start Today An instruction class for adults interested in learning how to play chess is scheduled to start at the YMCA at 7:30 p.m. today. The course will continue each Thursdays for six weeks with each session running from 7:30 to 9:30. If sufficient interest develops, a permanent Chess Club will be organized.
Richard E. Burry, well-known local chess authority and author of a Daily News weekly column devoted to the game, will be the instructor. The class is part of the YMCA's informal education program now under way. Other subjects being taught include beginners' and advanced bridge, crafts for women, conversational Spanish, ballroom dancing and amateur photography.

Strong supporter of George Wallace for President
…will be Richard E. Burry, son of the Fort Lauderdale Mayor

Wilton Manors—Richard E. Burry, son of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Edmund R. Burry, will be one of this area's strong backers of Alabama Governor George Wallace's bid for presidency.
“I would be willing to do anything asked of me to further such a (Wallace-for-President movement,” Burry, of 2365 NW Fifth Ave., Wilton Manors, said.
Burry, who recently bought Wallace-for-President signs for his car and for his wife's, conceded that his father prefers another candidate —Richard M. Nixon.
Referring to the sign on the front of his car, Burry said, “I stand where my mouth is, and my mouth stands where I am.”

Burry, Richard E., 83, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday, (January 12, 2005) at home after a lengthy illness. Born in Larchmont, New York, he moved to Spring Hill in 1993 from Fort Lauderdale, where he lived since 1946. He was an Army veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant. He founded the Hernando Chess Club. He was a member of the Hernando Sportsmans Club. United Sportsmen and American Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife, Georgette, two sons Richard G., Coral Springs, and Devitt S., San Francisco; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. National Cremation Society, Brooksville.

After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.

The photograph of Bobby Fischer (above) from the March 02, 1956 The Tampa Times was discovered by Sharon Mooney (Bobby Fischer Newspaper Archive editor) on February 01, 2018 while gathering research materials for this ongoing newspaper archive project. Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
