Funeral Service Pending For Dr. Gerald Branch
Berkeley, April 15.—Funeral services are pending today for Dr. Gerald E. K. Branch, 67, a member of the Chemistry Department faculty at the University of California for nearly 40 years, who died in his office of a heart attack yesterday.
Dr. Branch was found by his wife, Harriot, who had come to take him home from the office. He has been under treatment for many years for a chronic heart ailment, according to his physician.
Dr. Branch, who would have been 68 tomorrow, was the second member of the Berkeley faculty to die of a heart attack on the campus within three days.
Monday, Dr. George R. Potter, 59, professor of English and former head of the department was stricken and died later at a hospital.
Dr. Branch was a native of the British West Indies and attended schools in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Liverpool, England, before coming to the University of California where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1915.
Dr. Branch joined the faculty in 1915 and continued to teach up until the time of his death except for a two-year leave of absence in World War I. He was appointed a full professor in 1931.
He was a member of the American Chemical Society and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
He lived with his wife at 1303 McGee Ave. There are no other close surviving relatives.
