Here is a group of chess players. The picture was taken in April, 1906, with Holy Trinity Church as the background. They are, from left to right: Magnus Smith, Geza Maroczy, Charles Blake, John E. Wildman, unidentified, Robert J. Spencer.
Mr. Smith, the famous Icelandic chess master, was at that time the Dominion champion. Mr. Blake was the secretary of the “Mother Club” and a student of law. Mr. Wildman is the manager of the Sheet Metal Products, Ltd.; Mr. Spencer is a grain man.
Prof. Maroczy was on a mission to Canada for his government, and took the occasion to display his chess genius before a large Winnipeg audience.
