WINNIPEG, Oct. 20.—A blonde 17-year-old chess wizard, Abe Yanofsky of Winnipeg, Sunday won the senior chess championship of Canada as he finished the 10th round of the 11-round tournament 2½ points ahead of his nearest rival.
At the end of 10 rounds youthful Abe, who started playing with senior chess experts when he was 10 years old, had a record of 9½-½ for nine wins and a draw in the tournament which began last Tuesday. The final round is scheduled for today and a win or draw will give Abe a clean sheet with no losses for the title play.
The dethroned champion, M. Fox of Montreal, and a private in the Canadian (Active) Army, H. Opsahl of Temiskaming, Que., were Yanofsky's nearest opponents in the standings. It was Fox who held Abe to his only draw of the tournament in the first round.

Fox, 7-3;
Opsahl, 7-3;
