Chess at the Hereford Congress
The following highly interesting game was contested in the masters' tournament at the Hereford meeting of the English Counties' Chess Association, on Aug. 12, between Herr Schallopp, of Berlin, and Mr. Blackburne. It was the only partie lost outright by the English champion during the tourney, and though his pay in this particular game seems hardly up to his mark, on Herr Schallopp's part it is certainly a fine specimen of pertinacious and well conducted attack. We are indebted for the score and notes (here somewhat abbreviated) to London Knowledge.
