Birmingham Chess Club.
Mr. J. H. Blackburne, the British chess champion now nearing the close of his 77th year (not his 76th, as his biographies erroneously state), last evening at the rooms of the Birmingham Chess Club, Midland Institute, played 20 concurrent games, with the usual overwhelming results.
Before play a large company took tea as the guests of the retiring prudent, Mr. S. J. A. Lane, whose year of office has marked an increase of membership, notwithstanding the war. Mr. John James, vice-president was elected by acclamation president for the coming year.
